A super rare original 1937 Swedish re-release movie poster for Burlesque on Carmen, the 1916 Charlie Chaplin silent slapstick comedy starring Charles Chaplin, Ben Turpin, and Edna Purviance. The film is Chaplin's thirteenth film for Essanay Studios, originally released as Carmen on December 18, 1915. Chaplin played the leading man and Edna Purviance played Carmen. It's a wacky parody of Bizet's opera "Carmen".
There are numerous variations of this poster of the years, but this bold and striking artwork by artist Walter Bjorn is the best I've seen. He was a prolific commercial artist who created over 5000 posters - Wow! Walter Bjorne studied at the School of Design and Crafts school (Slöjdföreningens skola) in Gothenburg from 1928 to 1931. Was an advertising artist since around 1937 and has made approximately 5000 movie posters.
