An original 1980's re-release Australian/NZ daybill poster for the cult film The Warriors, a 1979 American action thriller film directed by Walter Hill. This scarce re-release was produced in a blue and orange variant.
The film is about a New York gang called the Warriors who are trying to get back to their home turf in Coney Island in Brooklyn, after they are framed for the murder of a respected gang leader.
For me growing up, this film was the epitome of cool, The Wanderers comes a close second. I remember hearing stories of vandalism and violence in theatres when it was first released, which I thought was crazy that a film could provoke such a reaction. The stories turned out to be true. Paramount temporarily halted their advertising campaign and released theatre owners from their obligation to show the film. Despite its initially negative reception, The Warriors has since reached cult status.
