An original 1982 re-release cinema poster for Clockwork Orange, a dystopian crime film adapted, produced, and directed by Stanley Kubrick, based on Anthony Burgess's 1962 novel. Alex (Malcolm McDowell), a psychopathic delinquent, is imprisoned for murder and rape. In order to reduce his sentence, he volunteers for an experimental therapy conducted by the government, but it all goes askew.
Lots of people think the film was officially banned but it was self-imposed ban by Kubrick himself. The film was quick to stir up controversy with its supposed power to incite real-life horrors. Reported copy-cat acts of violence were pinned on the film, and because of the mounting negative press Stanley insisted it be withdrawn from UK distribution.
