An original 1978 Australian Daybill poster for the theatrical release of Skateboard, an American sports drama film directed by George Gage and starring Allen Garfield and Leif Garrett. Tony Alva features in a cameo as "Tony Blue-tile". Its about a Hollywood agent who finds himself in debt to a powerful bookie. To make a fast buck, he creates a team of exceptionally talented skateboarders and enters them in a downhill race. If they win, they will get $20,000.
Back in the late 70's Leif Garrett was a teen idol skate icon, he did everything and had it all. Skateboarding was what every kids was doing at the time. There were skateboard World Championships which drew huge crowds with slalom (weaving in and out of cones) and downhill races. What a tranformation the sport has made when you look at crazy shit they do now on the street courses at the X Games!!
